My Morning Routine is Safe

When you stay up until 2am every night and function off of 4-5 hours of sleep, there a few items that are critical to prevent burnout. Coffee is definitely one of them. Other include a good mattress, a dark room, being able to "turn off" your brain (not something I can usually do), and saving a "holy day" for sleeping in.  My balance is achieved mostly through caffeine though.

There is a much heated debate on whether good coffee is for you or not. Obviously moderate consumption is an underlying assumption. Recent studies have shown that heavy consumption can reduce risk of forms of prostate and breast cancers.

Caffeine is a personal savior for those days following nights when I'm burning the candle at both ends. I try to temper its addictive traits by abstaining from caffeine during certain parts of the year, usually Lent.

Whatever your drug of choice, learn about it. Then challenge yourself to change something about it.

Be well. Do good.
